Frequently asked questions

What is an advance directive?

It's a document that records your wishes for medical care if you're ever unable to speak for yourself — things like resuscitation, life support, and who you trust to make decisions on your behalf.

Do I need a lawyer to do this?

No. We walk you through every decision in plain language. When you're done, you print and sign your directive according to your state's requirements (we show you what those are).

Is it legally valid?

Your directive becomes valid once you sign it following your state's rules — usually with witnesses and/or a notary. We generate the document and show you exactly what your state requires; always confirm with your state's guidance.

How does emergency access work?

You get a private QR code (great for a phone lock screen or wallet). Anyone who scans it — a paramedic, an ER nurse, a family member — sees a one-page summary of your critical wishes and your health care agent's contact, without logging in. Sensitive details like your full records are never shown.

Can I change my wishes later?

Anytime. Your directive is always editable, and we send a gentle yearly reminder to review it so it stays current as life changes.

Who can see my directive?

Only you, plus anyone you explicitly share it with — like the health care agent you name. You control access.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit and stored securely, and public emergency summaries deliberately exclude sensitive personal and financial details.
